IRA - Instrument Rating - Oral Exam - ZOOM Stage Check
IRA - Instrument Rating - Oral Exam - ZOOM Stage Check
A final stage check targeted around typical weakness areas of student pilots going into their IRA checkride, structured around the ACS (Airmen Certification Standards). Especially useful for students who have trained at a Part 61 flight school, where it may be difficult or impossible to have a one-on-one session with a CFI other than your regular. However, you may just want an extra level of ‘insurance’ - and extra preparation can go a long way in terms of pass or fail.
A pass goes on your record. So does a fail. Let me help you have an easier interview process in the future!
In this stage check, we will have a one-on-one customized Zoom session in which I will conduct a complete and thorough evaluation of your comprehension and knowledge of the ACS areas that you will be tested on by your DPE during your checkride oral exam portion. Included in this, I will assign you a scenario that you will need to prepare for and send the documents over to me including a weight and balance form, IFR XC NavLog, and performance information completed specific to the aircraft you fly or one similar to the one you plan on taking your checkride in. I also require a copy of your IRA Written Exam test scores for PLT codes.
”I already have a CFI, and he/she said I was good to go!”
Let’s face it, if you fly with the same person every day throughout your entire training, your CFI learns who you are. Which can be a great thing! But it also means that they know how to subconsciously cater questions and queries in a way that they know you can make more sense of it. Which can be an invaluable tool, but during your checkride, the DPE may be unaware that “that’s how you are,” and if he or she seems to think that you might not “get it” - it could be a dissatisfactory outcome. A neutral and professional evaluation beforehand could be invaluable, save you time and money in retake fees, and that is what I hope to do for you, as well as identify key areas for you to work on or strengthen before the big day.
In conclusion, I will prepare a personalized document that I will send over to you within 24 hours after our session which will cover all of the following:
- strong areas
- weakness areas
- personalized homework recommendations
- special emphasis on common failed points, such as:
- GPS/WAAS, RNAV and RNP
- IAP procedures
- and more
- PLT codes
